The mayor of Cieza vindicates the performance of the taxi drivers from the airport in Corvera (27/09/2018)

After the statements of the mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, the mayor of Cieza claims the role of Cieza taxi drivers in their daily activity at the international airport of Corvera, paid by all citizens of the REGION of Murcia.

"It does not make sense that, in an airport that we have paid among all the inhabitants of the Region, only taxi drivers living in Murcia-city can work, remembering that this claim was made at regional level so that taxi drivers in Murcia could work in the airport of Alicante "declares the mayor of Cieza, Pascual Lucas.

We do not understand the situation that is being created in this sector in our municipality and surrounding areas.

Since, for some years, taxi drivers in Murcia have been in conflict with the Valencian legislation that prevented Murcia taxi drivers from attending the International Airport of Alicante, prior contract.

Situation that was solved after the legislative amendment and the permission of action in cases of exception, when the contractor had already agreed to the transfer prior to arrival.

Article 36, paragraph 3 of Law 10/2014, November 27 of the CARM, endangers the taxi sector in municipalities with a low population density.

Taxi drivers who work in small towns work with a family relationship, establishing personal relationships with their customers.

From the Government team was transferred to the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia for them to act and give technical advice to this sector.

In this sense, the Federation of Municipalities met with the General Directorate of Transport to bring the need for amendment of art.

36 of the aforementioned law, in accordance with other regulations.

For all these reasons, the Municipal Socialist Group of Cieza has drawn up a motion that has sent the rest of the municipal groups to seek consensus in the defense of taxi drivers.

Urging, in this way, the rapid action of the Autonomous Community to end this situation of inequality.
