The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has developed the BURNED operation, an investigation aimed at identifying the authors of the fire of numerous garbage containers in the municipality of Cieza, which has culminated, with the arrest of a neighbor of the locality to which He is credited with the alleged responsibility for the continued crime of fire damage.

The value of damaged urban deposits amounts to 18,000 euros.

The investigation began in July, when the head of the Urban Environment and Environment of the city of Cieza reported to the Civil Guard a series of damages, caused by fire, in numerous garbage containers located in different urban streets and avenues of the Industrial Estate of Cieza, which had generated some social alarm.

The agents in charge of the investigation found that, in a single day, 13 containers with a similar modus operandi had been burned, which made one suspect that the same person could be behind these events.

The evidence obtained in the different criminal scenarios concluded that the claims had been intended with the intention of damaging street furniture by fire.

Citizen collaboration

Thanks to citizen collaboration, the researchers managed to develop a physiognomic profile of the suspect, whose features coincided with those of a known criminal in the area.

Recently, the investigations carried out below have culminated in the location and detention of a 37-year-old male, of Spanish nationality and a neighbor of Cieza, who is credited with the alleged authorship of the continuing crime of fire damage.

According to the investigation, the now detained is after the alleged authorship of the burning of 16 containers, 13 of them perpetrated during the same day at the Industrial Estate of Cieza in July, and another three during the past month of August.

Apparently, after starting the fires, he remained in the area contemplating the result of his action.

In some of the accidents, in addition, the fire caused a risk for people, affecting plots and a vehicle parked nearby.

The BURNED operation has culminated in the clarification of 16 criminal acts, consisting of damages by fire in urban furniture of the municipality of Cieza, for which reason an individual has been arrested as the alleged author of the investigated crimes.

The value of the damage caused amounts to 18,000 euros.

The arrested and the proceedings have been made available to the Court of Instruction number 1 of Cieza (Murcia)

Fire crime

The current Penal Code establishes, in its article 351, that those who cause a fire that poses a danger to the life or physical integrity of the persons, will be punished with the prison sentence of ten to twenty years.

The Judges or Courts may impose the lower penalty to the extent that the lesser extent of the danger caused and the other circumstances of the event have been served.

When there is no such danger to the life or physical integrity of persons, the facts shall be punished as damages provided for in article 266 of this Code.

Crime of damage

The person who commits the damage to another's property through fire, or causing explosions, or using any other means of similar destructive power or generating a relevant risk of explosion or of causing other damage shall be punished with the prison sentence of one to three years. of special gravity, or endangering the life or integrity of people.
