The Minister of Water, Agriculture and Environment, Adela Martinez-Cacho, accompanied by the general director of Water, Andres Martinez, today held a meeting with representatives of the communities of irrigators in the municipality of Cieza to begin work to improve water and energy efficiency of their irrigation systems.
Martinez-Cacho said that "the union of the 1,670 villagers of the municipality of Cieza will be an important step in the modernization of irrigation systems".
The Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment will initiate a hydrological analysis of all irrigated land communities ciezano municipality in order to offer to irrigators of the town the tools to improve water infrastructure and energy efficiency from the same.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the three communities of Cieza (Community of Irrigators Ascoy, Venis and Carrasquilla, Community of Irrigators del Peral and Irrigation Community Acequia del Horno).
In total, the three communities have over 6,000 hectares of land and about 1,670 villagers.
Stone fruit and seed are the predominant productions, to which must be added some variety of vegetables.
