Cerdá photo exhibition opens Cieza City, focusing on water, drought and renewable energy (12/06/2010)

The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, opened last night at the Museum of Cieza Siyasa exposure of the winning photographs in the XIV International Photo Contest Cieza City 2010, organized by the Institute of Secondary Education The Albares, under the slogan ' Water, drought, agriculture and renewable energy. "

The exhibition, which will be open until June 26, consists of a selection of thirty photographs of the nearly 600 who participated in this year's competition.

The owner of Agriculture and Water said during the opening ceremony that "water is life" and added that this resource is part of our history and our culture because it has always been linked to food production. "

Cerda said that "agriculture needs water to survive", and said "Murcia is a food factory that supplies half the world markets despite being the driest region of the European Union."

He also assured that agriculture "plays a key role in the future because the population will increase and will require increased food production."

The Minister of Agriculture and Water recalled that, according to FAO, world population will reach 9,000 million by 2050 "and the water will remain a critical resource and food production under irrigation will increase from 35 to 71 percent ".

"In Murcia we have learned to manage water scarcity. The modernization of irrigation and wastewater treatment and reuse have been the two main axes of the regional government's water policy," he said Cerda.
