An appointment that will take place on 12, 13 and 14 October and that aims, as in previous years, to give visibility to the different espalier communities from all over the country.

The organization of these meetings is carried out by volunteers belonging to the National Roundtable for the study and dissemination of Esparto Culture that was established during the first meeting in 2016, in Albacete.

Prompted by Pascal Janin, international expert and editor of the Plan for the Safeguarding of the Culture of Esparto for the Institute of Cultural Heritage of Spain, these days are programmed annually in places strongly linked to the espartera activity.

Esparto Culture encompasses a broad set of knowledge, knowledge and techniques that have made it possible to take advantage of this resource intensively to solve many needs of the rural population.

We are witnessing today a turning point, the step of knowledge and traditional use of Esparto, daily and peasant, to a new relationship with Esparto: the recovery of knowledge and crafts of Esparto as one of our hallmarks, as a resource formative, as a form of creativity.

The objective of this event is to put in contact all the sensitivities that exist around the Culture of the Esparto, to lay the foundations of this new relationship, to know its past concluded, the present and future perspectives, to continue advancing in its process of safeguard and, on everything, to share time and space among esparto people.

The program will include, among many other activities, the presentation of papers and communications on this artisanal and industrial work, crafts exhibitions, demonstrations of starting, "raking" and "hilao", "performances" with products made with esparto paper, departures to the mountain to visit spartan landscapes, as well as projections of documentaries about the uses of this vegetable fiber.

The Interpretation Center of Esparto and its Industry, which actively participated in both the First Edition, in Albacete, in 2016, and the Second, in Águilas, in 2017, will offer its premises and its facilities along with the collaboration of the City Council of Cieza.

Converted into "the place of the memory of a people", the Esparto Museum offers a permanent exhibition of old machinery and original tools, braids and equipment, illustrated with printed and photographic documentation.

Faithful guarantor, in addition, of the conservation of a large quantity of pieces made of esparto, longs to put an end to the disappearance of the last vestiges of the esparto culture, which since time immemorial was generated in this land.

From the organization, citizens are invited to attend and participate in this cultural event to exchange experiences, knowledge and esparto times.

The attendance to the meeting is completely free;

nevertheless, it will be necessary to register in advance through the electronic mail (ena.esparto@gmail.com) for the food that will be celebrated on Saturday.
