From Podemos Cieza, we have always stated that culture is a strategic axis of municipal policy because it not only has its aspects of sensitivity and enjoyment, expression and recreation, artistic creation and manifestation beyond knowledge and entertainment and celebration, but that It is also a factor of wealth for the city due to its economic aspect.
It is therefore a necessity and at the same time, a value.
Thus we were defending with facts during the previous legislature with our participation in the government team, where we proposed, we developed different actions and we supported the work of the previous Councilor for Culture at all times carrying out various cultural performances together with that council.
When the new City Council left the last elections (now without our presence) presented the new team of Councilors, it was very striking for many something that of course would not have happened with us within the government team: the absence of a Councilor for Culture.
If this means that they have diluted their traditional powers in other councils, bad, and if it is that Mr.
Mayor will be "the councilor of culture", we believe it is a clumsiness that insults common sense.
We believe that the Mayor cannot take care of this area with sufficient attention given that any mayor of a population of 35,000 inhabitants already has many complex issues to deal with and very important efforts to do, which makes it difficult to focus on An area of such importance, work and tradition.
Likewise, we believe that Cieza has a valuable and very important cultural history, as well as a proven cultural background, along with a large and excellent list of cultural associations and groups (and that they are a pride for all the citizens and for our City Council), which require , in the democratic sense of participation, a reference in the City Council.
And therefore we believe that it is a negligence that for the first time, in our municipal history since the democratic city councils were restored in 1979, we have a municipal government WITHOUT CULTURE COUNCIL.
Who will people, groups and associations address when they have a cultural issue to address?
To the Department of Celebrations?
To the Library?
To that of Museums? To the Mayor? ... A nonsense.
Jesús Bernal, Salvador Susarte, Beatriz Sarrión, Ana Cobarro or José M.ª Rodriguez, etc., were councilors in charge of the cultural efforts of our municipality and, regardless of whether their work was more or less successful, all were the visible head of the Municipal Culture, and all were available to individuals, groups and cultural associations.
We want with this note to call on the municipal groups to promote and in some cases, reconsider the need for a Department of Culture in our town hall, with a person who gives visibility to this area so crucial for the welfare of the Cezannos and Ceiezanas
We, even outside the town hall, will continue to propose and carry out our work that is none other than always working for the welfare of our neighbors.
Because you can.
