The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has investigated the driver of an articulated vehicle of 40 tons to circulate exceeding five times the maximum rate of alcohol.

The vehicle was intercepted by a Citizen Security Prevention patrol after receiving notice from several road users about the presence of a heavy vehicle, on the RM-714 road (Jumilla-Caravaca), which was zigzag.

To the male driver, of Spanish nationality, of 56 years and neighbor of Almuñecar (Granada) the alleged authorship of driving crime is attributed under the influence of alcoholic beverages.

The events took place on the afternoon of last Sunday, day 6, when the Traffic Operations Central of the Civil Guard of Murcia (COTA) was alerted by several users of the route that a large tonnage vehicle was circulating by carrying out anti-regulatory maneuvers along the road RM-714 (Jumilla-Caravaca).

A Patrol of Prevention of the Citizen Security of the Benemérita managed to identify the vehicle and intercept it at the height of the municipal district of Cieza, next to the Sale of the Olive Tree.

In view of the fact that his driver had symptoms of being under the influence of a substance incompatible with driving, a patrol of motorists from the Civil Guard Traffic Sector moved to the site to verify these signs.

The driver was subjected to the mandatory breathalyzer tests, which showed a positive result of 0.76 and 0.73 milligrams of alcohol per liter of exhaled air, five times the maximum allowable rate, which in the case of professional drivers is 0 , 15 mg / liter.

Under these circumstances, the driver, who was transporting tropical fruits from Granada to Valencia, was investigated as the alleged perpetrator of a driving offense under the influence of alcoholic beverages.

Given the high rate of breathalyzer and due to the danger involved in the circulation of a large tonnage vehicle under these conditions, the vehicle was immobilized in an esplanade in the immediate vicinity until the next day, when the driver, after the test of Breathalyzer, showed negative result and could continue the projected path.

The person investigated with a record for similar crimes and the proceedings taken have been made available to the Court of Instruction number 4 of Cieza.

The offense of driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages, with rates higher than 0.60 milligrams / liter, is included in article 379 of the Criminal Code and can be punished alternately with prison sentences of 3 to 6 months, fine of 6 12 months, or work for the benefit of the community from 31 to 90 days and in any case with deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for more than 1 and up to 4 years.

The Civil Guard continues to reiterate its message to those drivers who recklessly and recklessly, despite the campaigns and warnings of the General Directorate of Traffic, drive after having drunk or taken drugs, remembering that, without prejudice to the systematic conduct of Ordinary or special preventive controls, which will be increased in particular during the different Carnival celebrations in different towns of the Region of Murcia, the mandatory alcohol and drug tests will be practiced on drivers who are denounced for the commission of infractions, involvement in accidents or those others in which their consumption is detected in the course of other surveillance and inspection activities that are carried out, with the purpose of making citizens aware of the incompatibility of these substances with driving.

On the other hand, the Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia wants to appeal to the civic conscience of the population so that they notify the telephone number 062 (Civil Guard), 112 (Emergencies) or directly to patrols in service, when, as in In this case, they encounter anomalous situations or irregular maneuvers that give rise to the idea that drivers do so under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Fourth case so far this year

This is the third case, so far this year, of drivers of large and tonnage vehicles intended for the transport of goods intercepted by the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia by driving under the influence of alcohol.
