Antonio Moya participates in a new session on climate change with schoolchildren (31/10/2019)

The conference room of the Padre Salmerón Library again hosted a talk on climate change on Thursday by the Councilor for the Environment, Antonio Moya, who answered the questions raised by students of the Juan Ramón Jiménez School.

The mayor reminded young people that climate change is the evil of our time and its consequences can be devastating if we do not drastically reduce dependence on fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions.

In fact, the impacts of climate change are already noticeable and are evidenced by data such as that the global average temperature has already increased 1.1 ° C since the pre-industrial period, the 2015-2019 period, according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) ), it will probably be the warmest five-year period ever recorded and the sea level rise rate has risen to 5 mm per year in the 2014-2019 five-year period.

But we are also seeing the economic and social impacts, which will be increasingly serious, such as damage to crops and food production, droughts, health risks, extreme weather events such as DANAS, storms and hurricanes or mega-fires
