The City Council and the "la Caixa" Foundation renew the agreement to promote active and healthy aging (26/11/2019)

Once again, the City Council can count on the collaboration that the Social Foundation 'la Caixa' and the consistory form for the project that promotes activities among the elderly.

The Mayor, Pascual Lucas, and Melba Miñano Bleda, Councilor Delegate for the Elderly, met a few days ago with the delegate in Murcia and the Valencian Community of the Banking Foundation 'la Caixa', Lourdes Toribio Tarraga, and Mª José Martínez Villa, director of Murcia Norte de la Caixa business.

The meeting was held with the objective of carrying out a first contact and exchanging impressions on the need to renew the agreement that, for 17 years, both entities have been signing, since the group of seniors is suffering a great growth and , therefore, it has the need to continue increasing resources that contribute to improve the quality of life of this group.

The purpose of the future agreement is the development of the Elderly Program in the network of the Las Morericas Social Center, which will contemplate various activities aimed at accompanying the elderly so that they can develop their life project, providing them with resources, training and activities, such as training itineraries that provide competencies, promote their capabilities and provide tools for their development.

In this sense, the program has the will to recognize diversity in the elderly and adapt it to the contents.

The mayor of Cieza said in this regard that "some of the itineraries are focused on the development of the abilities and skills of these people that facilitate decision making and accompany their development so important for the elderly to have quality of life at this stage for them".

These health itineraries are especially focused on addressing pre-fragility situations in order to promote people's autonomy.

For its part, the Councilor for Social Services, Melba Miñano, commented that "there are also itineraries that promote social and community participation of the elderly, generate the creation of projects linked to the community and, therefore, allow to share experiences for a better society. "

The members of this program may also find training itineraries in digital skills, promote proposals to provide answers to new challenges that are emerging or that are already present in the centers for the elderly, especially the prevention of unwanted loneliness situations, encouraging activities and spaces where the relationships, awareness and empowerment of the elderly and the social recognition of their rights are cultivated and promoted.
