United in sport as an instrument of social inclusion (19/02/2020)

We all carry labels assigned by others.

Those who praise us get along with pleasure and even with pride.

The hard ones can become a burden for a lifetime, from which we try to free ourselves with despair.

The most universal label, and perhaps the most desired, is the one that should be assigned to all by the simple fact of being a person: the one that defends the equality of all, without discrimination by disability.

The hands of some monitors helping run a young woman with Down syndrome, in the I Day of Inclusive Sports promoted by the Department of Sports, are full of love and sensitivity to those who overcome physical and psychic barriers to live fully with The same right as any other.

And seeing this photograph, and observing the gesture, we cannot stop thinking about all those professionals and volunteers who, every day, contribute their effort to favor inclusion.

"Come on champions."

Under the sun of a somewhat atypical winter morning in Cieza, the artificial grass inside the Juan Manuel Molina Athletics Track almost shines.

Someone, from the stands, throws that brief phrase of encouragement on the air upon hearing that the group gathered there is a large representation of users and students of the New Foundation Los Albares, Association of Mental Health Cieza and Comarca (Afemce), Center for People with Los Olivos Disability and El Buen Pastor Special Education College (Ascopas).

In just a few minutes they will compete for pleasure in the Day of Inclusive Sports promoted by the Department of Sports.

The event is celebrating its first edition this year, with an inclusive dimension that guarantees the presence of volunteers and participants of the IES Los Albares.

The experience has its own strength that can make you forget that thanks to it adapted sport is possible.

Delusion.

It is probably the word that best defines the mood of the people who have made this commitment to inclusion and diversity possible.

In a very good mood and even better mood, those present have practiced different athletic specialties.

This type of activities promoted by the municipal area that Carlos Semitiel directs has long roots, but above all a lot of interest.

Hence, this meeting space is to the liking of all participants, since their assistance provides them with a difficult satisfaction to replace.

Among all, society and public authorities, we must ensure the inclusion, the autonomous and independent life of people with different abilities, who deserve the same opportunities as the rest.

Because every person always has invaluable value and as such should be considered.

If everything evolves as before, the next day will be the month of April and will be oriented to team sports.

"The field of inclusion needs all the help we can give, today more than ever. That is why at the Department of Sports of the City of Cieza we want to reaffirm our commitment to promote it and help make it happen. With initiatives like this, today we have more capacity than ever to do it, "says Semitiel.

Thanks to the support of the people, incredible goals have already been achieved.

The work of caregivers, monitors and volunteers is also commendable: they spend a lot of time in their workplaces and symbolize what the relationship between a person without disabilities and a person with disabilities can be.

The First Day of Inclusive Sports is a metaphor for what can be achieved in Cieza: if the experience progresses, the whole city will change.

It is a noble goal that we can all share and for which we must work together, now more than ever.

One more step must be taken and it cannot be done alone.
