Cieza continues his fight against climate change (11/05/2020)

The municipality of Cieza has joined the European initiative Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, endorsing the 2030 European objectives to combat climate change and adapt the municipality to this new meteorological scenario, as well as the fight against energy poverty that affects the most vulnerable groups.The municipality has been an active member of the Covenant of Mayors since 2011.

Within the framework of this initiative, an Action Plan for Sustainable Energy was prepared, establishing measures to reduce emissions in the municipality with a 2020 horizon.

Now, the City Council assumes the objectives set by the European Union for 2030: at least a 40% reduction in greenhouse gases and strengthen the capacity of our municipalities to adapt to the inevitable impacts of climate change, which is already a reality.

in Cieza and in the Region of Murcia, to ensure the well-being of all citizens.The Plenum of the City Council, in its session of February 28, 2011, approved its adherence to this initiative.

To achieve these objectives, the City Council is developing an Action Plan for Climate and Sustainable Energy (PACES), for the preparation of which a working group has been created consisting of municipal technicians and led by the Department of European Projects and Planning Strategic, Environment and Citizen Participation.

The Plan will collect the opinion of all citizens, by conducting work sessions with the local agents involved, participation sessions, as well as through surveys.The preparation of the PACES is part of the European project Compete4SECAP, through which the EuroVértice consultancy gives technical support to the Spanish cities involved.This new challenge represents a further step for the municipality of Cieza in its fight against climate change, in addition to the recent implementation of an energy management system certified by AENOR under the ISO 50001 standard, the energy competition developed during 2019 in municipal buildings.

, in which a local building won, the participation in the Interreg Europe E-MOB project, which seeks to facilitate the transition to electric mobility, or the numerous actions of renaturation of the municipality carried out with EDUSI.
