Make yourself heard on Mental Health Day (11/10/2020)

If something surprises about Sonia Serrano, it is her enthusiasm for bringing the voice of her colleagues and achieving the dream of reading the manifesto of the Mental Health Day in the plenary hall of the City Council of Cieza.

Like the iron will of Paquita Teruel to lend a hand in the directive of a regional association.

And the struggle of fathers and mothers who, in the search for a better quality of life for their children, found the support of other families who have carried a backpack of very positive experiences.

Up to this point, it could be the wishes of any neighbor, if not for the fact that these people share a unique experience: belonging to the Cieza y Comarca Mental Health Association (Afemce). The Cieza y Comarca Mental Health Association (Afemce) moved this Friday in a symbolic way to the Plaza Mayor, headquarters of the city council, where the reading of the manifesto of the Mental Health Day took place, pending its celebration, October 10th.

The act marked by the pandemic yesterday summoned Mayor Pascual Lucas and representatives of this group to the plenary hall.

The 21-year history of this association, created in 1999, exemplifies the drive and determination of a group of families that have made the protection and promotion of people with mental illness their life mission. The first to arrive at the plenary hall was the Councilor for Social Welfare, Melba Miñano, who received the representative of the Afemce board of directors, Paquita Teruel.

There was a certain connection between the two.

In fact, Miñano did not hide his satisfaction with the "correctness" of an act that has remained on the local agenda, despite the health crisis, with reduced capacity and the presence of the media.

Teruel agreed on the need to "make our neighbors participate in our message of freedom and our hope for a better time", alluding to the content of this year's manifesto whose motto is' Mental health and well-being: a priority global". The manifesto, read by Sonia Serrano, offered a hopeful message in the face of the current situation of global uncertainty: "At a time when humanity must get its future right, the idea of ??quality mental health for all people emerges strongly , because we are without a doubt one of the main determinants of global well-being ".

In addition, he defended positive mental health that, in his words, "conditions everything, and permeates with its foundations the voids that silence produces, and the forgetfulness of those who do not know where to walk." On the other hand, he asked that the processes surrounding mental health "be defined from the human rights perspective."During his speech, Serrano highlighted the need to establish channels of participation in society for the group of people with mental illness, "in the assurance that only in the social role does mental health find its balance and fullness.

It is perhaps inclusion the most shared dream ".

Along these lines, the Afemce user said that "we must continue to add to our cause the greatest number of wills in the certainty that the collective conscience will lead us to a space of understanding." He concluded by saying that the agenda of the international community is the agenda of mental health because the UN Human Rights Council affirms that there is no health without mental health. To conclude the main act of the Mental Health Day, Pascual Lucas took the floor to sign, on behalf of the Municipal Corporation, the manifesto in its entirety.

"The slogan chosen for this year is very successful," added the councilor, without hiding his optimism for the commitment made by the City of Cieza, "to dignify the lives of people with mental illness and improve their social inclusion ".

In this sense, the mayor recalled that both institutions have been working together for a long time and that "a great step towards the well-being of this group will be the launch of a supervised apartment."
