| Campaign against mistreatment and abandonment of domestic animals #YoSiPuedoContarlo | The alleged responsibility of the crimes of animal abuse and abandonment is attributed to them They took the animal by car to the industrial estate where they abandoned it Citizen collaboration has been counted on The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has developed an investigation to clarify the injuries and the subsequent abandonment of a dog, of the Labrador breed, in an industrial estate of Cieza, which has culminated in the investigation of two residents of Jumilla as alleged authors of crime related to the protection of flora, fauna and domestic animals due to animal abuse and neglect. The investigation began last September, when a neighbor of Cieza filed a complaint after observing how two people abandoned a dog, a Labrador, in an industrial estate in Cieza. The complainant also contacted the Animal Protection Association 'Galgos del Sol', who picked up the animal and took it to its facilities, located in San Javier. The veterinary examination carried out revealed that he lacked a microchip and that he suffered a massive infestation of ticks, severe anemia and irreversible kidney damage. From that moment, civil guards from the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) began an investigation to find out the identity of the people who had abandoned it in such a poor state of health. Recently, after gathering all the necessary evidence, the Civil Guard has located in Jumilla a mother and her 43 and 26-year-old son; and of Ecuadorian nationality, who have received proceedings as alleged perpetrators of individual crimes of mistreatment and animal abandonment. The persons investigated, the dog and the proceedings instructed have been made available to the Court of Instruction number 4 of Cieza (Murcia). Crime of animal abandonment The crime of animal abandonment is included in the Penal Code and included in crimes related to the protection of flora, fauna and domestic animals. This crime is committed by anyone who abandons an animal in conditions that could endanger its life or integrity and is punished with a fine of one to six months and special disqualification from three months to one year for the exercise of profession, trade or trade that is related to animals and for keeping animals. Campaign against abuse and neglect of domestic animals #YoSiPuedoContarlo With the main objective of educating citizens so that they promote the necessary measures in the protection, management and welfare of domestic animals, as well as denounce those behaviors contrary to animal welfare of which they are aware, the Civil Guard began the year the #YoSiPuedoContarlo campaign. The Civil Guard has been detecting an increase in public awareness, not only through formal complaints, but also among users of social networks, as shown by the fact that one of the topics that generates the most interaction in our Twitter followers and Facebook is the request for citizen collaboration to clarify crimes of mistreatment of animals. The second objective of this campaign is to make the population aware that having an animal is a great responsibility and that animal abandonment is punishable by the current Penal Code. If you want to join this campaign, record a video with the slogan "I can tell you about it" or a photograph with the hashtag #YoSiPuedoContarlo and upload it on your social media profile. Likewise, if you know of any case of animal abuse or neglect, report it on the phone 062 in the email seprona@guardiacivil.org or on our social media profiles.
