Podemos-Cieza: "The outrageous attacks from the right to the LOMLOE (Education Law) are only based on hoaxes" (25/11/2020)

| Neither religion is removed, nor does the concerted one disappear, nor are special education centers closed, nor are extinguishes Castilian: all false | In our constitutional system, the laws that regulate fundamental rights, such as the right to education, must be approved by Parliament as organic laws and obtain an absolute majority of the votes in Congress.

This is not easy, and less so in an assembly as politically fragmented as our lower house is, but the LOMLOE, the so-called "new education law" has achieved it, so its democratic legitimacy is more than guaranteed.

For this reason, "the protests and attacks against the new text, many times outrageous, coming from the rights and concerted, private and Catholic education demonstrate the profoundly undemocratic nature of these sectors, to which freedom, for which they cried out on Thursday some deputies from their seats, it only works if it is useful to their interests.

" In Podemos-Cieza, we believe that "it is an indecent attitude, even more so if one takes into account that the reproaches are based on hoaxes that have nothing to do with the text of the law approved by Congress." Thus, it is affirmed from the right that the legal reform seeks to end concerted education and that it attacks freedom of education, but this is not true.

The suppression of the concept of "social demand", which was introduced by Wert's reform and which was clearly detrimental to public centers, will not make a network of subsidized centers that was already more than established before said reform disappear.

Therefore, "what is put are limits to private centers financed with public funds to end practices of socioeconomic segregation, through the collection of fees, or gender, with the separation of students by sex; and also limits the cession of public land for the construction of concerted centers ". To say that the law kills special education centers is another gross lie.

On the contrary, "what the law tries to do is to guarantee that all centers have the necessary resources to serve students with disabilities in the best conditions, favoring their inclusion in the educational system and in society." Nor is it true that religion is eliminated, "since it continues to be a subject of compulsory offer although, logically, it was a voluntary choice, and what is abolished is the obligation to take an alternative subject and its academic value, since at From now on it will not count in the average grade ". And finally, "we must dismantle the great fallacy that the new law will make Castilian disappear from the educational system in Catalonia or in other communities with vernacular languages." It simply eliminates the mandatory nature of Spanish as the vehicular language of teaching throughout the State, "a confusing legal notion that introduced the 2013 PP reform and that tried to outlaw the linguistic normalization measures adopted by some autonomous communities , thus returning to what always existed and, furthermore, the educational administrations are obliged to control that at the end of ESO there is a full command of Spanish as well as the co-official language, if applicable ". In short, beyond the lies and misinformation, "the new law supposes the deactivation of some very regressive measures introduced by Minister Wert's 2013 reform and the recovery of the progressive spirit and consolidation of public education with which it was born the LOE in 2006 ".

At Podemos-Cieza we want to make it clear that "although having a good law is essential, the problems of education depend as much or more than on the law of the educational policies that develop it and the financing with which the system is endowed, and There is still a long way to go here, since issues such as the ratio of students per teacher, coexistence in schools, the dignity of the teaching work or the modernization and digitization of the centers are those that must occupy the agendas of the educational administrations from now on, both at the state level and at the regional level, which is where most of the competences are located of execution".
