The Municipal Disability Commission pays posthumous tribute to social worker Ana Martínez (07/12/2020)

That Ana Martínez (Cieza, 1959-2020) has been awarded posthumously at the Murcia Region Disability Awards is reason enough for her to also be honored in her hometown for her professional career as a social worker and for that portentous sensitivity at the service of social inclusion.

The Padre Salmerón Municipal Library was this Friday the most suitable setting for the tribute and there it was given by the people who keep it in their memory and by a citizenry that still has it very present.

Nobody like her could embody that synthesis between social commitment and dedication.

Promoted by the Municipal Disability Commission, the event became a source of pride for his family and friends. There are two things that defined his work: his professionalism and his indelible determination to give the rightful place to people with disabilities in any time and circumstance.

In addition to the committed image of herself that she cultivated with care and consistency, Martínez was also defined by a deep tenderness that permeated many of her moments in her life.

An affable and warm woman, throughout her life she mixed her two great passions, volunteering and social commitment, and in both she began to practice at a very young age, helping in the Association for the Physically Handicapped 'Tocaos del Ala-Ángel Soler'.

His sensitivity was very close to his personality.

And it was an example in terms of his relationships with people and disability.Indeed, being very young, she began her career as a volunteer.

Attentive to the concerns of others, she was moved by an overwhelming interest in inclusion.

Thus, she did not stop until she managed to leave her profession as a teacher and graduate as a social worker.

The same irrepressible sensitivity later led him to enter the aforementioned Ciezan association where he stood out for his dedication, his clear vision and his firm commitment.

During her professional stage, she was a pioneer in setting up a special employment center and a day center for people with physical disabilities.

His extraordinary work illuminated the way for his subsequent altruistic collaboration with Famdif-Cocemfe to fight for the rights of this group. It is easy to imagine the emotion that the tribute caused among the relatives.

In his speech, the mayor of Cieza, Pascual Lucas, put Ana Martínez as an example of admirable behavior, "leaving an indelible mark on people with disabilities for whom he fought so hard, as well as on his colleagues for their great professionalism, and among the citizens in general, who have recognized their valuable work ".

On the part of the family, his daughter Eva Navalón thanked the Municipal Disability Commission for the tribute, as well as the councilor's words of praise offered at the event where a souvenir metope was also delivered.

"She was a person who always greeted you with a smile, close to anyone who approached her," Navalón recalled. This show of gratitude and respect from the Municipal Disability Commission for the contribution of the people who make Cieza a place of inclusion was attended by the Councilor for Social Welfare, Melba Miñano, the representatives of this advisory body, Pepe Piñera and Lola Reales, and Ana Martínez's widower, Conrado Navalón, along with his second daughter Alba, among other relatives.

Many of his colleagues and members of the Association for the Physically Handicapped 'Tocaos del Ala-Ángel Soler' would have liked to be there had it not been for the restrictions imposed by the health crisis.

"I want to thank you for this well-deserved recognition.

I want ..." He paused to contain his emotion.

"I want to remember my mother."
