[Cieza transforms its streets to adapt to climate change and soften its effects on the city (28/12/2020)

Works are already underway for the execution of actions included in the Strategic Plan for Urban Ecology and Biodiversity on Avenida Ram ny Cajal, 80% co-financed by the ERDF within the framework of EDUSI Cieza 2025 Integrative City. The works, which are expected to be completed in mid-April, will consist of the demolition of pavements and the incorporation of criteria for improving urban trees and biodiversity, increasing permeability through sustainable drainage systems and improvement in efficiency in the management of water resources, also including a pioneering system to avoid interference and guarantee the establishment of trees through structural cells. As a result, the city will be provided with greater green coverage, achieving a reduction in the increase in temperatures and associated energy consumption, as is also foreseen in the Climate and Energy Action Plan.

a Sustainable (PACES), recently approved by the Consistory. This action is part of the selected operation "Revitalization of the urban environment, improvement of parks and gardens and development of urban tree planning", whose objective is to protect the environment and promote resource efficiency . The approved operation also included the development of the Strategic Plan for Urban Ecology and Biodiversity 2017-2032 for green areas and road trees in Cieza, which establishes the new guidelines for the management of green areas and which also led to the drafting of the design of two pilot tests for its implementation, one on Juan XXIII avenue and the other is on which the action of Ram ny avenue is based.

Within the framework of this operation, actions were also carried out to improve the equipment of the Parque Pr ncipe de Asturias to adapt it to the needs of the citizens, whose work ended in July 2018. All the actions described are part of the Cieza 2025 Integrated City Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development Strategy and are 80% co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
