[Saor n: "Pharmaceutical copayment is eliminated for six million people" (08/01/2021)

The Councilor for Health and Public Health of the City Council of Cieza, Francisco Saor n, reports that, from this January 1, with the entry into force of the PGE, the pharmaceutical copayment has ceased to be mandatory for various groups that add up to six million people. In a press release, the Councilor for Health and Public Health of the City of Cieza, Francisco Saor n, has reported that this January 1 the General State Budgets (PGE) for 2021 have come into force.

that, among other things, will benefit six million people included in vulnerable groups for whom the pharmaceutical copayment will no longer be mandatory. Saor n has explained that among the beneficiary groups are pensioners with incomes lower than 5,635 euros per year, or 11,200 euros in the case that they are not obliged to file a tax return.

To this end, the General State Budgets (PGE) for 2021 contain an item of 257 million euros to mitigate the effects of what is "a barrier in access to medicines and compliance with treatments in some sectors of the population.

n ", has specified the mayor. Minors with a degree of disability equal to or greater than 33% are also exempt from the copayment; and the recipients of the economic benefit of Social Security for a dependent child or minor in a permanent foster care or guardianship scheme for adoption purposes.

This elimination of the pharmaceutical copayment will benefit a total of 6.047 million people, of which more than half (3.56 million) are pensioners, 2.35 million are people with assistance per dependent child, and 138,102 minors with disabilities. Saor n has stressed that in this way the PSOE and United We Can have transferred to the budgets the agreements signed in the field of Health within their government program.

Both formations are committed to progressively eliminating the copayments introduced in 2012 throughout the legislature. The councilor recalled that "the pharmaceutical co-payment system was implemented in 2012 by the Government of the Popular Party chaired by Mariano Rajoy.

It was about the patient paying part of the cost of prescription drugs to reduce the cost of the State in public health ". On the other hand, Saor n has assessed that since the beginning of the year more than 1,300 presentations of medicines of fifteen common active principles, some very common for the treatment of asthma, dermatitis or inflammatory processes, have dropped in price, in compliance of the order published in the BOE on reference prices. Saor n has concluded by showing his satisfaction for these measures that complement the "social shield" that the Government of Spain launched ten months ago so that the economic crisis generated by the coronavirus pandemic does not leave anyone behind.
