366,000 euros to make the treatment plant more sustainable in the municipality of Cieza (17/10/2017)

The Governing Council has given the green light to the authorization of the expenditure to carry out the execution of the works of remodeling and improvement of the sewage treatment plant (WWTP) of the municipal district of Cieza, whose total amount will be 366,469 euros.

This action, charged to the budgets of the Sanitation and Purification Entity of the Region of Murcia (ESAMUR), will be implemented in two equal halves between this year and next.

The works will contribute to the achievement of a series of environmental objectives such as the improvement of the stability of the biological process and the reduction of the energy costs of the plant.

The WWTP of Cieza is constituted by two different installations.

The pretreatment is located next to the Segura River, southeast of the city, while the rest of the plant is located almost three kilometers away, to the north, next to the A-30 motorway.

The Cieza treatment plant treats annually 2,653,000 cubic meters of water, with a daily average of about 6,000 cubic meters.

The facilities are prepared for a daily treatment of 10,000 cubic meters.

The plant, which was launched in 2001 and was expanded in 2012, is designed to serve a population of more than 60,000 inhabitants, and has a tertiary treatment system, which allows the treated water to be used for agricultural use and ecological flow.

This action is part of the II Sanitation and Treatment Plan with the objective of continuing to maintain the international leadership in wastewater treatment, granting the latest technologies to its treatment systems.
