The City Council of Cieza and the Ecovidrio entity launch the campaign (15/12/2017)

Ecovidrio, the non-profit entity responsible for the management of glass packaging waste recycling in Spain, in collaboration with the City of Cieza, launches during the Christmas Festival the awareness campaign 'Be supportive, do the best gift ', to promote glass recycling among all citizens.

In the presentation Francisco Saorín, Councilor for Services of the City of Cieza, and Roberto Fuentes, manager of Ecovidrio for the Levante area, explained that the initiative will run between December 22 and January 6, and have encouraged everyone the residents and visitors of the city to recycle the waste of glass containers during these days, since "they are dates with a significant increase in the generation of waste and especially high consumption of products packed in glass".

For its development, Ecovidrio will place two containers decorated with the image of the campaign, one in the Plaza de España and another in the Plaza de Abastos, in which citizens "must recycle the largest amount of glass containers to overcome the proposed challenge that consists of overcoming among the three participating municipalities, Bullas, Cieza and Yecla, eight tons of recycled glass containers in these containers ".

If the challenge is overcome, Save the Children will receive a donation of school materials to promote education through its project against child poverty in Spain.

Accompanying these containers, an informant will carry out an awareness raising among pedestrians, explaining the campaign's challenge and showing the environmental benefits that the recycling of glass containers has for the environment.

In addition, it will distribute to all the citizens who come to know the initiative and the solidary challenge some adornments for the Christmas tree, leaving this message perpetuated in many homes during the Christmas holidays.

During the presentation, and according to the latest data available for 2016, it has been made public that the residents of Cieza recycled a total of 835,340 kilograms of glass containers.

This assumes that each ciezano recycled an average of 23.8 kilograms of glass.

With respect to the container rate per inhabitant, Cieza has an average of 200 inhabitants per container, currently with a total of 175 igloos for glass container waste installed in the municipality.
