Ecologists in Action, Region Murcia, Rio laughs and ACPES held on Sunday the "Big Jump" in Segura river as it passes through Cieza, on the river beach "La Presa", a popular swimming area near the town of Cieza.
The "Big Jump" is an initiative of the European Rivers Network, ERN, supported by various European organizations, and which aims to draw attention to the fact that the EU has set 2015 as the date on which should have recovered the good ecological status of European rivers.
This is, then, bathing in the waters of our rivers should be a reality.
The "Great Leap" will take place on Sunday 8 July at 13.00 in the place "The Dam" on the right bank of the Segura River, passing by Cieza.
Environmental organizations take advantage of the vindictive nature of this call to call attention to the need to improve the conservation and protection of riparian forest.
A key element in the ecological improvement of rivers, and yet is threatened by constant attacks as fires, agricultural farms lastransformaciones adjacent to the river, or the application of herbicides on native vegetation.
