Queen Sofia inaugurated the Capitol Theatre in Cieza, new cultural landmark of the region (07/06/2013)

The regional government has invested a total of EUR 11 million in the rehabilitation of this building, which will have a main hall with capacity for 700 spectators

Equipped with the main new technologies, offers the ability to schedule several shows at the same time and have the option of becoming cinema

The president of the Community, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, attended today the opening ceremony of the Capitol Theatre in Cieza, chaired by Her Majesty Queen Sofia, which opens its doors again to become a new cultural landmark in the Region of Murcia.

The event, which was attended by the Mayor of Cieza, Antonio Tamayo, and the Government Delegate, Joaquín Bascuñana, along with other local and regional authorities, included the discovery by Queen Sofia of a plaque in the lobby the building, followed by a concert by the Symphony Orchestra of the Region of Murcia.

The program consisted of the interpretation of 'Alborada and ciezanas scenes.

Ciezano spinner Song 'by José Verdú, overtures' The Abduction from the Seraglio "by Mozart, and' The Hebrides' by Mendelssohn ', and' Symphony No. 5 'by Beethoven.

At the end of the concert, the Queen went to one of the rooms adjacent to greet the director, Virginia Martinez, as well as the other members of the Symphony Orchestra.

The rehabilitation work involves an investment of 11 million euros from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

The building will have a main hall with capacity for 700 people, equipped with the best acoustics for theater and music, as well as a second room for another 150 spectators.

This last stay will be located on the main entrance, with separate entrance, offering the ability to schedule several shows at the same time.

The project, the architect Horacio Fernández del Castillo, preserves the historic façade of the building, providing access to the smallest room, but will have a second entry of new construction, down the street Pablo Iglesias, much broader.

The theater has major technical innovations, with a new stage area, and have the option of becoming a movie theater, both spatially and in their specific equipment for projections.

The new cultural space will likewise have a multi-purpose rooms for exhibitions and essays.

Thus, the interior has been arranged for a separate use of the auditorium and the rest of the function rooms.

Cieza The Capitol Theatre opened in October 1955.

From its opening until its closure in the early 90s was the main cultural landmark of the city.

Cieza City Council acquired the property in 1994 to his final reopening to the public as municipal cultural space.
