The Life + Segura Riverlink project celebrates World Day of Migration of Fishes talks and activities of environmental volunteering (21/05/2014)

The next May 24 World Day of Migration of Fish held.

On this occasion, for the week of May 24 to 31, the Life + Segura Riverlink project has organized a series of training activities and free environmental volunteering around the migration of fish, with the aim of raising public awareness about the importance of achieving a river without barriers.

The Life + Segura Riverlink project, led by the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura (CHS), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, aims to recover the longitudinal connectivity in the Segura basin by restoring forest Bank and permeabilization of artificial obstacles on the river.

In activities open to the participation of citizens and coordinated by the CHS, the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, University of Murcia and ACPES Anse and associations, adverse effects of river obstacles on natural movements are explained migration, dispersal and colonization of the fish, which cause serious environmental problems and worsen the ecological status of rivers.

As for volunteering, Saturday 24, between 11:30 and 12:30 hours, a loose eel in the Segura River in the La Contraparada (Murcia), and the following Saturday, the day will be held 31, between 10 and 14 hours, will conduct a sampling and identification of fish in the place of Hoya Garcia and Dead River (Cieza), also in the course of the Segura.

Moreover, they offer lecture on "Fish River Segura: eel fish invaders" with free admission to all seats, on Saturday May 24 (10:30 am) at The Centre Contraparada Murcia, the Wednesday 28 (20:00 pm) at the Museum of Cieza Esparto, and Thursday 29 (19:00 pm) at the Youth House Calasparra.

The program of activities to mark the World Day of Migration of Fish comes complete with an informative presentation on the Life + Segura Riverlink project, which will run from Monday 26 to Friday 30 May (8 to 15 and 16 20 hours) in the House of Culture of Abarán.

Admission is free and there is the ability to schedule tours, registration, through segurariverlink@chsegura.es email account.
