The fight against gender violence remains the struggle for equality between women and men (24/11/2014)

The assessment of the tragic balance throughout the year, marked by the alarming increase of sexual assault, verbal harassment and killings of women throughout the state, and no reaction from the public authorities and the acquiescence of an important part of the Company confirm that relations between men and women continue to be built on foundations that continue propping patriarchal inequality and sexist discrimination.

It is in this context of inequality and patriarchal discrimination where all kinds of attacks are framed against women.

Only an informed and founded on real equality, society would prevent the economic crisis could be an excuse or explanation.

The fact that the same body image of women as mere object that still projecting many media and advertising, and even from social and political spaces statements and clearly prejudicial and demeaning behavior toward women, send a sexist messages of great significance, which greatly promoted and implicitly raise gender violence and inequality.

Real equality is built on prevention and education.

Policies and strategies that are used to prevent attacks from a must-sexual affection at all levels to facilitate developing a sexuality based on respect and real equality between men and women education.

And of course, against cuts in budgets and public policies that are taking place, we require financial and human resources for development policy of active, comprehensive and participatory equality, for the attainment of a society free of violence reinforcing gender, along the lines of what has been said by the Istanbul Convention on the prevention of domestic violence and proposals set out by feminist groups.

In this sense, Cieza IU-Greens consider scarce resources to advertise and promote equality between men and women and to combat gender violence, directed mainly in the Region of Murcia assistance offered by CAVI, forgetting and leaving aside therefore a range of policies and actions should aim at preventing sexist attitudes and behaviors that lead to violence.

In recent years, for example, it is worth noting that the PP regional government allocated only 0.87 cents per capita to political equality as enshrined in its initial draft budget for 2015 and, locally, the City of Cieza not budget a single euro from its own resources to these policies, merely manage to get him transferred from the region.
